So, if there’s no winery in Avalon, why’s it called Avalon?
If you have ever stared at the fridge of a good wine shop, you may have found yourself wondering ‘how do I know which Rosé?’ We’ve learned what red varieties we like, which regions in Australia produce the best Chardonnays, how important provenance is, and even yeast variety, but Rosé remains a bit of a mystery.
Every country makes one. Every region in Australia makes one. And seemingly, you can use almost any grape variety.
It’s all so confusing.
Isn’t wine meant to be enjoyed.
Then the penny dropped. Surely, it’s not where it comes from, but where that glass of wine takes you to.
Tastes conjure times and places, memories; the two of you on a lazy summer’s evening; sharing some cheese with family in front of a fire; a long lunch with a dozen friends and more than a dozen oysters each.
Our 2022 Avalon is a blend of those Provence classics, Grenache, 60% and Mourvèdre, 40%. It’s been fermented and aged on full lees to add character.
Beautiful hues of copper and rose gold, brilliant clarity.
Aromas of ruby grapefruit, some pith. Orange marmalade, with apricot, and also hints of bright raspberries and strawberries.
The palate receives a great texture with firm acid-driven, chalky tannins. It’s dry and serious. Refreshing quinine, grapefruit and a hint of red currant.
Our 2022 Avalon Rosé is made and nurtured by M.J. Corbett (Vanguardist Wines). With over 25 vintages to his name, Michael has amassed a wealth of experience, importantly producing Rosé wine in Provence.

Avalon Branco. This is a perfect lunchtime wine. It makes a refreshing aperitif, but it also has enough going on to enjoy with a range of food, and at only 10.5% alcohol it won’t have you nodding off in the afternoon.
It’s a Mediterranean blend of Sardinia’s Vermentino and Portugal’s Fernao Pires, not as aromatic as Viognier or Pinot Gris, but full flavoured in the mid-palate and with a refreshingly dry finish. If you like a Soave, or are bored with Pinot Gris, it’s time you tried this.
Tinto. Three Iberian varieties make up our inaugural red: Graciano which is prized for its spiciness, acidity and tannin.
Prieto Picudo brings aromatics, good acidity, dense colour and an aroma of blackberry and liquorice. And Mencia – which has been likened to the love child of a Grand Cru Burgundy and Hermitage. How can you resist?
